I'm excited to share these with you because I LOVE vitamins! I'm a firm believer that the more natural you go in medicine, the better. Always better to prevent than to treat, etc. etc. I even used to manage a retail vitamin store, back in the day!
I was given the opportunity to give four New Chapter products a trial run, and I'll be posting all four reviews as I go through them. After the very last one, one lucky Serial Access Mom reader will be lucky enough to win a full-sized bottle of their choice from the four reviews!
New Chapter Perfect Calm is somewhat similar to the Perfect Energy I previously reviewed, in the fact that they are both complete multivitamins with added herbal support. I figured Perfect Calm would be just the thing to take around lunch-dinner time, as the day winds down and everyone's getting geared-up for bed.
The serving size is three tablets, taken at any time with or without food. As I said in my other vitamin review, though, I suggest taking them with some food or milk, as the majority of vitamins absorb best with fats. The pills are medium-sized, and I had no problem swallowing them. (All three at once, even!) Perfect Calm is 100% vegetarian and naturally gluten-free.
Here's a little bit of information from the site:
"Perfect Calm is the ideal organic whole-food multivitamin herbal and nutrient formula for those seeking to address daily stress, enhance calm and overall well-being.* It is the first and only multi to feature the long revered anti-stress herb Supercritical Holy Basil, which has been shown in scientific studies to modulate cortisol and ease a worried mind.* Chamomile and Lemon Balm offer additional soothing effects by promoting healthy levels of calming neurotransmitters.* A complete multi, Perfect Calm provides a combination of 25 whole-food vitamins and minerals formulated to promote optimal health while targeting the nutrients your body needs most during times of stress, like whole-food complexed Vitamins B and C.* Perfect Calm also contains cultured, organic herbal blends to provide immune and digestive support — two important functions that can be affected by high levels of stress.*"
While taking Perfect Calm, I didn't really notice a HUGE decrease in stress. Then again, with the holidays fast approaching, that would be a mighty feat to accomplish! Plus, it's hard to compare one day's stress level to another with a little one in the house. Each day's very different! I can say that it has helped me sleep better on the days that I chose to take it later in the evening. It is very gentle on the stomach, so even those with sensitive digestion should be able to take it. Overall it was useful, but not as relaxing as I'd hoped.
