Sponsor Spotlight: SoftBums Echo Diaper System {Review}

If you're an avid reader, you know that I've only used one type of cloth diaper so far: Pocket diapers. And I've loved them, yes! But now it's time to try something new, which is where the SoftBums Echo all-in-two system comes into play!

 SoftBums was created by husband and wife team Sarah and Brian Van Bogart in Minnesota. They've been creating their Echo diapering system since 2008, and with 10+ years under her belt Sarah's got quite a few tricks up her sleeve!

I was given the chance to try out the Echo diaper, which is an All-In-Two system consisting of a waterproof shell and snap-in inserts.

SoftBums Echo Features:
  • SoftBums Patent Pending Slide²Size is the ONLY variable adjustment of it's kind
  • Fits all legs widths from 4" - 14" for NO red marks EVER.  Made in the USA!
  • Choose your own Pods for a customized diapering system!
  • SoftBums Echo looks smaller than leading brands, because it's Ultra Trim
  • No Leaks, Thanks to Slide²Size Technology!
  • SoftBums Echo protects against rash; up to 80% less rash than disposables!
  • Industrial strength velcro closures are long lasting and won't "wear out" like other velcro
  • Reusable Echo shell saves money, space, and resources

Ease of Use:  ★ ★ ★ ★ - The Echo diaper is super easy to use, no wonder these are Daddy-approved! No pockets to stuff, simply snap an insert onto the shell and strap your little one in! I'm still torn between snaps and aplix...both have huge pros and cons, but aplix/hook and loop closures definitely take the prize for easiest to put on.

Fit: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ - This truly is a one-size-fits-all diaper, from birth to potty training! Many diapers boast this range of fit, but only a handful really stand up to the test. The Slide2Size adjustable leg elastic system is a great innovation! There's a small opening at the front of the diaper that holds two strips of stretchy elastic with toggles to shorten or elongate the diapers leg openings, creating a custom fit for your little one. They really do secure a perfect fit without gaps or red marks. The tiny pocket opening is so small that little fingers aren't able to get a hold of the elastics, if they even notice that the pocket's there at all.

See how small the leg openings can get?

Leakage: ★ ★ ★★★  -  During the day, we've had great success with keeping leaks in (and no blowouts, thank you back elastic!) During the night is another story. Jace is peein' more and more at night and we've found that we need to use a doubler or second insert to contain all the liquid. Unfortunately, since the Echo is a super-trim fit it's quite bulky with a few leg gaps when we use two inserts, even with the Slide2Size tightened. I think it wouldn't be so much of an issue for girls, as they don't need room for the "extra equipment" up front. For extra room and a wider fit, Soft Bums also makes a pocket/AI2 diaper called Omni. This system is a little more versatile and is roomy enough to be used as a cover for prefolds, even!

Washing & Drying: ★★★★★ - I love that I don't have to reach into a wet/dirty pocket to grab out an insert...all you have to do is unsnap the insert and toss both insert and shell into your diaper pail or washing machine. We wash our diapers with one cold cycle, then one hot with detergent and an extra rinse and this diaper washed wonderfully. This is our first AI2, yes, but also our first aplix closure. The laundry tabs work usually, but every once in a few washes the tabs will come loose and I'll open the washer to find an insert stuck to it. Not a biggie, but it might be an issue for the inserts down the road. The diaper dries fairly fast (when hung,) but I do wish that it didn't pill quite so much after a few washings.

Cutness-factor: ★★★★★ - A HUGE thumbs up for some seriously cute prints and solid colors from SoftBums. We tried out the Blooga print, which is currently out of stock, but there are so many more I want!  Each month SoftBums is releasing a "calander bum" limited edition color in the Echo series. April's diaper is Lilac, which is still available through the SoftBums store and other retailers!
