Jace in the garden & Butternut Mac'N'Cheese {Recipe}

  In rural Maine, pretty much everyone and their mom has a garden. It's quite a change from the urban Los Angeles landscape I'm used to, and after three years here in the frozen north I'm still getting used to seeing vegetables growing everywhere. Even here in our rental half-home our landlords have a small veggie garden in the backyard every summer/fall. It usually consists of some basics, tomatoes, green and yellow beans, cucumbers, and of course...squash! This year Jace couldn't get enough of walking around the square garden patch, pointing at each and every vegetable and babbling at each one some made-up name he'd given it. At this point in the season most of the veggie plants have dried-up, leaving only a few small squash (and a TON of green tomatoes) behind in the patches of dirt. Jace even started calling the squash "skwa," couldn't have made me more proud!

Look! I found a "skwa"!

Jace as Spiderman for Halloween 2012! {Review}

This year will be Jace's second Halloween and we couldn't be more excited! We get to spend the week leading up to it with my family in California, presumably helping my mom decorate for her favorite holiday (mine too!) Last year we dressed our munchkin up as a chili pepper during the day and in just a Halloween themed outfit during the chilly night for taking his half brother trick-or-treating. Jace wasn't quite walking yet so we didn't let him walk around collecting treats, but I don't think we'll be able to stop him this year! Thankfully we've found a mobile child-friendly costume that we can layer under and over clothing to keep warm...Spiderman from the animated Spiderman and Friends!

Phthalates in your "novelty" toys ....huh?

So, it's been quite a while since I've blogged about EdenFantasys. As I was browsing around their website recently something caught my attention, and if you're a natural-alternative-seeking individual like myself you might be interested, too!

Phthalates. What are they? Where are they found? How do they pertain to adult "novelty" toys? (None of us own any of those, we're all good girls and boys, right?  *shifty eyes*)

(Note: This post contains tasteful discussion of adult products and how to keep yourself safe from chemicals while still having fun-times. You have been warned!)
