Emerson Creek Pottery {Holiday Gift Guide & Giveaway}

  In the past, whenever it came to buying new tableware or ceramic pieces I purchased the cheapest and easiest to find. A trip to the local discount retail store and a few bucks later I'd be home unwrapping bulk-purchased plates, bowls, etc. While it's nice to have everything matching and new, there's always something missing still. Plain, boring dishes lack character and flair. Unfortunately they often lack quality, as well.

  I'm so happy to introduce to you Emerson Creek Pottery! Each piece of gorgeous pottery is handmade right here in the United States, Virginia to be precise. Priscilla Palmer and Jim Leavitt founded Emerson Creek Pottery in 1977 and their team of artisans have been creating beautiful hand-crafted pieces of ceramic ever since.  Since they are also hand-painted, no two pieces are exactly the same, making your collection one of a kind. Best of all, unlike many other handmade pieces I've encountered, each piece is lead-free, microwavable, and dishwasher and oven-safe!

  I chose to review the Large Mug in the Blue Crab design, isn't he freaking adorable?

  I'm not a coffee drinker at all, but give me a good cup of hot cocoa and I'm in heaven. I had no problems whatsoever microwaving the mug to heat water, the cup even stays fairly cool to the touch with the hot water inside. I LOVE the large rounded rim, which is easy to sip from and just feels nice and home-y. The crab, which is hand painted on, is adorable! He makes me smile every time I take a sip.

  I did have one "oops"  moment already, totally my fault but it goes to show just how durable these ceramic pieces are. I wasn't watching Jace closely enough and he managed to steal the empty mug off the kitchen table. After discovering what he had in his hands, I freaked. I semi-chased him around the kitchen until, in a moment of panic, he dropped the poor blue crab mug right on the tile floor so hard that it basically bounced. After close examination, I discovered that it now had a large hairline crack running down one side of the mug. Oh no!

Hairline crack along the back left side.

  Fortunately the crack appears to solely be cosmetic, as I've had many cups of hot chocolate and tea since with no leakage or breakage. Huzzah!

  I love that each piece is stamped on bottom with the Emerson Creek's logo and the year made. Not only is each piece handmade, but also fired in a gas kiln. There are currently 13 different design lines to choose from, each one a reflection of natural beauty.
