Magic Cabin: Imaginative Toys for All Ages {Holiday Gift Guide +Giveaway}

Don't you just love it when you stumble across a website that carries so many items you just seem to get lost browsing? That's how I feel about Magic Cabin! They have so many wonderful, well-made children's toys for every age group that it's hard not to covet. Everything from fairy dolls to playhouses to construction sets, Magic Cabin truly is a kid's dream come true.

We received a pair of awesome toys for my son and stepson to enjoy: the Sand Digger and a gorgeous blue Classic Cloak.

Up first: the cloak. I can't get enough of the texture! Super-soft crushed velvet on the outside makes this beautiful cloak flow and ebb like water, matching it's deep blue hue. I'll be honest, I wanted this cloak for Jace so badly because of the Magic: The Gathering card that he's named after:

I have a vision of sewing-on white symbols and dressing Jace as, well, Jace for Halloween in 2013. How amazing is that?! Ok, my nerd is showing a little bit...

What's neat about this cloak is it's full hood, which drapes around Jace's neck and shoulders as opposed to regular hoods that fit the head without much room for movement. An adorable touch: the hood and front panels are lined with printed fabric (This one has a celestial theme.) Overall, very well sewn and of great quality that will last for years of play. While it appears that the Classic Cloak is currently unavailable on the website, they also have a similar cloak called the Cotton Velour Royal Cape.

Next up: the Sand Digger. My first run-in with one of these toys was at a public park in California. There, bolted into the concrete under the sand, was this miniature construction claw digger with levers to make it move. How awesome! Jace thought so too, so when I saw that Magic Cabin had one, I knew we had to have one.

The digger came to us in three basic parts: the seat, the stand, and the digging apparatus. Easy enough for an adult with no real knowledge of tools (cough cough) to put together with just an adjusting wrench. It's made of metal with a plastic seat and plastic in the mechanical joints, and while it's definitely an outside toy I wouldn't recommend leaving it outside for any extended period of time. Extreme weather, or even normal sun over a period of time, might wear at the joints/seat and may compromise the safety. As with all kids toys, make sure to check them over frequently for needed repairs!

As soon as I assembled the contraption, Jace attacked it. In a good way. I set up the seat in the furthest position away (there are three settings) so that my 5 year old stepson might use it too, but that didn't stop my youngest. He jumped right up, sat down, and quickly learned how to maneuver the levers to pick up small items nearby (inside.) Since it's been snowing I don't have any "action shots" to show you of it's digging power, but you can be sure that, come springtime, we will be outside playing in some dirt and/or sand with the boys. My only suggestion for improvement is to make the base and seat a little heavier. The claw, since metal, is very front-heavy and even with an average-sized 5 year old the seat and base tend to pick up and lean forward while playing.

Have my awesome experiences convinced you to go check out Magic Cabin yet? Go go go! Every item they make is a "hot toy" for Christmas in my eyes, as there's literally something for everyone. Butterfly wings? They've got 'em. Giant inflatable outdoor balls your kids can climb into? Got 'em, too.
