When Jace was a wee munchkin, more "wee" than he is currently, he ate everything put in front of him. I made dinner for Mark and myself, cooking our usual fare with a healthy side of veggies and fruits, Jace gobbled it up happily and life moved on. Nowadays it's often a struggle to get him to chew and swallow many vegetables (he'll partially chew most, then spit them out onto his plate), even though these are the very same veggies that he's been eating for a year now. So frustrating.
Copy-Kids, an independent media company, has come up with the perfect solution. Copy-Kids Eat Fruits and Vegetables is a DVD focused on helping very young kids expand their diets to include raw fruits and veggies, how awesome!
Copy-Kids was started by mom Cai Dixon who noticed that her young daughter was willing to try more fruits and vegetables while watching other children eating them. Kids always imitate what they see! Cai says "I never would have expected my child to eat raw broccoli - but she demanded it as soon as she saw another child eating it on TV. Now it is one of her favorite vegetables."
The DVD is broken down into 12 short segments, each one focusing in on a specific fruit or vegetable and featuring many children in their home setting, eating and enjoying the produce unscripted. There are chapters on bell peppers, broccoli, cucumbers, carrots, avocado, bananas, tomatoes, and more! IT is recommended for kids ages 6 months to 5 years, so get 'em while they're young!
I was skeptical at first, but as soon as I popped the DVD into our player Jace was glued to the TV. He laughed when the kids on the program laughed, pointed at them, and munched right along! It's helpful to have the fruit or veggie that they're viewing on-hand to encourage your kiddos to try them. Jace gobbled up some raw broccoli along with the TV kids:
And also gnoshed on a banana while that segment was on:
The DVD also features a segment for parents with an interview of renowned pediatrician Dr. Jay Gordon. He talkes about obesity in children and suggests ways in which parents can help their children make healthy food choices.
We love it! Our munchkin isn't old enough to ask for certain produce by name yet, but he definitely wants whatever those kids are having. This DVD is the first in a series of helpful programs for kids, with others coming shortly on topics such as exercising, tying shoes, and tooth brushing. I will definitely be buying the latter, hope it helps as much as this program did!
