Bears is the third Disneynature title in our family collection, it has a happy home along with Earth and Wings of Life. We recently received a copy to review and it has really kindled a love of a misunderstood animal for me!
Disneynature Bears tells the story of two new bear cubs and their family during the cubs' first year of life. The cubs- Scout and Amber -explore and experience life anew as they leave the den and wander out into the world. There are many heartwarming moments, and a few harrowing ones that make you doubt everything you thought you knew about bears before. Just like any other animal in nature, the bears face struggles to survive and are all too often thought of as the "bad guys."
I really admire the filmmakers who captured the bear footage for this film. To spend hours upon hours each day just steps away from these magnificent creatures takes a lot of bravery and trust, trust in the animals and ones own knowledge of how to act around them.
My absolute favorite aspect of the film was the narration: John C. Reilly! His voice lends a very Disney-esque playfulness to the movie, and it only took me seconds to picture Wreck-It Ralph narrating the movie himself.
Altogether, this well-rounded documentary film is a joy for the whole family to watch. There are a few potentially "scary" scenes for very young eyes, but they didn't phase my 3-year-old. In celebration of the release, the studio has created activities to go along with the film! Check them out via the download below.
