The Identical DVD Review

The Identical, starring Ray Liotta, Ashley Judd, Seth Green, and Blake Rayne is a redemptive movie about a young man, the son of a preacher, who rejects his father’s desire for him to join the ministry and instead embarks on a career as a rock singer. As he struggles to pursue his dream and rise to stardom, he finds love, pain, success, failure and ultimately uncovers a hidden family secret that reveals who he really us. The Identical is a captivating story about a family restored and a life discovered that lifts your soul and warms your heart.

Our Thoughts:

My mother had seen this film in the theater and loved it, so I went into The Identical with high hopes. And rightly so!

The story follows the life of Ryan Wade and tells the story of what might have happened had Elvis's twin brother lived instead of being born stillborn. While the word "Elvis" is never actually mentioned in the film, it is implied both visually and stylistically. Ryan is played by Elvis impersonator Blake Rayne, who really does bear an uncanny resemblance to Elvis.  Ray Liotta and Ashley Judd, who play Ryan's adoptive parents, delivered incredible performances in my opinion. Liotta's character, a revered reverend, preaches about equality and acceptance while Judd's character personified unconditional love for her adopted son. They were the highlight of the movie for me, as it's wonderful to see a positive religious message without fire and brimstone.

My entire family really enjoyed the positive message that this film delivered: Be true to yourself and find your own calling. Imitating someone else to be something that you're not will not lead to happiness, you've got to be you!
